Oil Rig Explosion & Fire in Gulf of Mexico Today: No Oil Sheen

There were initial reports today of an oil sheen after a Mariner Energy offshore platform, Vermilion Oil Platform 380, exploded and caught fire today. However, the US Coast Guard is now saying there is no oil sheen. The platform had shut down for maintenance and was not in production.

(MSNBC) An offshore oil platform exploded and caught fire in the Gulf of Mexico Thursday, just west of where the Deepwater Horizon exploded in April. NBC's Anne Thompson reports.
