USA Stock Markets Rally Since Obama Election & Inauguration


Democratic President Barack Obama was elected on November 4, 2008 and inaugurated on January 20, 2009.  How have the USA stock markets performed since these two dates through the Monday, March 22, 2009 close?

The NASDAQ 100 has led the way with an impressive +71.53% gain since the inauguration of President Obama on January 20, 2009.

Since Barack Obama was elected President on November 4, 2008:
Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 +11.85%
NASDAQ 100 +41.44%
NASDAQ Composite +34.56
S&P 500 +15.91%
Russell 2000 +25.08%

Since Barack Obama was inaugurated as President on January 20, 2009:
Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 +35.44%
NASDAQ 100 +71.53%
NASDAQ Composite +66.25%
S&P 500 +44.78%
Russell 2000 +57.48%

Overall, the USA equities markets dropped between the November 4, 2008 election and January 20, 2009 inauguration.  Ultimately, stocks would bottom on March 9, 2009 and a rally has continued since.

Soon I'll look at how the stock markets performed when Republican President George Bush served two terms.
